31 Days of Green Little Things: Halloween Costumes Can Be Real

Welcome back to my 31 Days of Green Little Things!  This is my place to talk about the little things that I do to help the environment.

"It's Tricky to rock a rhyme, to rock a rhyme that's right on time
It's Tricky...it's Tricky (Tricky) Tricky (Tricky)
It's Tricky to rock a rhyme, to rock a rhyme that's right on time
It's Tricky...Tr-tr-tr-tricky (Tricky) Trrrrrrrrrrricky" - Run DMC

Halloween is just a few weeks away!  Do you have your costume yet?  What about your kids’ costumes?  Here’s a little thing that will help your wallet as well as the environment.  Make a costume out of real clothes that can be worn again after the end of this month.  What to be super green?  Make a costume out of clothes you already own! It's really not that tricky. Here are some ideas:
  • Princess: flower girl (for little girl) or prom/bridesmaid dress (for "older" girl) with tiara (add wings to be a fairy)
  • Mail carrier: light blue button-up oxford, navy pants or skirt, blue ball cap
  • Firefighter: firefighter rain boots, black sweat pants and jacket with reflective (or yellow) tape reading F.D. on the back, a backwards baseball cap with F.D. over the logo can fill in for a helmet
  • Scuba diver: swim clothes, face mask with snorkel, and fins if you’re brave  (This one is probably too cold for Trick or Treating but would be funny at a party.)
  • Yogi/Yogini: yoga pants, t-shirt, and yoga mat (resale shops usually have plenty of mats)
  • Construction Worker: plaid shirt, jeans, boots, snow vest, and ball cap (This is what I dressed up as last year.  I even found a hard hat.)
  • Waldo: red and white striped shirt, red stocking cap, and jeans
  • Farmer: boots, a plaid shirt with jeans or overalls
  • Safari Guide: khaki pants, white or brown shirt, camera, and binoculars
  • Detective: dark clothes/suit and a magnifying glass
  • Run DMC: black hoodie, jeans, fedora, incredibly thick gold chain
  • Green Super Hero: green eye mask, green tights with a bodysuit over them. Pin a green "S" on your chest.

What?!?  You don't have green tights and a bodysuit just taking up space in your closet?  Maybe you're already a Green Super Hero... and everyone knows you can't go as yourself for Halloween!  I guess you'll just have to pick one of the other options above.

In all likelihood, you’ll be avoiding synthetic materials so, according to Mr. Green Stuff, you’ll be less likely to catch on fire from a jack-o-lantern.  If that doesn't convince you, I don't know what will! Plus, whenever you wear part of your costume you'll feel "tricky" long after Halloween!

What are you going to be for Halloween?
Peace,
Stacey

I started a Facebook page for my blog.  "Like" it if you're so inclined.
